Conditions Treated

If you live in the Lakewood area and notice new and concerning symptoms in your four-legged companion, bring them to Lakewood Pet Vet. A veterinarian will examine them and come up with the best course of treatment. Here are the ones that we treat:

 Parvo

Parvo, also known as parvovirus, is very contagious and can be very dangerous for dogs and puppies. If you notice that your dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, or has no appetite, you should bring them in for testing. Hospitalization is usually required. We will do everything from administering fluids, managing their pain, providing nutrients and dedicated nursing care until they are stable.

Ear Infections and Itchy Ears

Pets usually have much better hearing than people. If you remember how painful some sounds were when you had an ear infection, imagine that magnified even more. Some signs of an ear infection may include pets shaking their head, scratching their ears, or pus and discharge coming out of their ear. Excessive ear itchiness can sometimes be a symptom of an allergic reaction. We can evaluate their ears with our comprehensive in-house diagnostics to determine the root cause of your pet’s discomfort.

Food Allergies

There are times when your pet may eat something new that its body gets an allergic reaction to. Common symptoms include itchy skin, paws, or ears or digestive disturbances such as vomiting or diarrhea. Bring your pet in if they are experiencing any of these symptoms, especially if you notice your pet is having trouble breathing. Our staff will assess the situation quickly and get them feeling well again.

Heartworms

These are parasites that can be very dangerous for your pets. They can get it from a mosquito bite, which transmits the parasites to the heart. Be on the lookout for clinical signs in dogs like a chronic cough or an intolerance for exercise. Cats also show a cough, problems breathing, and sudden weight loss. If your pet experiences any of these symptoms, bring them to a veterinarian.

We also treat eye infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Be on the lookout for any eye redness or blood in the urine. Both of these things need to be treated as quickly as possible. Having a pet is wonderful and rewarding, and staying on top of their health can help them live long and healthy lives.
